TRIP EXTENSIONS: Many folks find it economical as well as highly interesting to add additional excursions to the beginning or end of their cruise. Be sure to discuss such options with the cruise company or your travel agent. It’s also wise to fly in or drive in at least a day prior to boarding your ship. This takes away the stress of traffic or flight problems and gives you time to relax. Some hotels can arrange parking and provide transport to the cruise terminal.

SHORESIDE EXCURSIONS: Part of the excitement of visiting Alaska includes the opportunity for once-in-a-lifetime adventures—whale watching, kayaking, dog sledding, glacier flyovers, exploring Alaskan history or witnessing Native cultural activities. In addition to providing quality entertainment and information on board, cruise lines offer a wide range and ability level of additional shore excursion packages. Often the cruise director or expedition leader will present a description of the various excursion extras a few days prior to arrival in port. This is an excellent time for you to ask any questions you might have about these exciting options.

Such extras are generally not included in the passage price so shore side excursions are either pre-booked or arranged on board. Note that many of these activities fill up fast, so if you’re interested be sure to sign up right away to avoid disappointment. Remember, too, that weather conditions heavily impact the availability of these excursions—that’s just part of life on the Northwest Coast.
