Known as the City of Gardens, Victoria is the oldest city in the Pacific Northwest and the capital of British Columbia. It’s a charming blend of historic British customs and modern convenience. Chinatown and the picturesque Inner Harbour offer great sightseeing opportunities whether you’re walking, taking a “Tally Ho” horse-drawn carriage or traveling on one of the red double-decker busses or motor coaches. The city’s outer harbour services cruise ships and ocean-going vessels.

Attractions:
  • The Royal British Columbia Museum boasts a memorable collection of totem poles, First Nations artifacts, natural history dioramas and provincial history displays, as well as an IMAX theatre. [Vickie has photos]
  • The Provincial Parliament Buildings offer guided tours during the day. At night, they are illuminated and take on a fairytale look.
  • The famed Empress Hotel, a landmark since 1908, serves afternoon tea (reservations required) while nearby shops tempt visitors.
  • Bastion Square, only a few blocks further on, includes the Maritime Museum in one of several restored heritage buildings.
  • The world famous Butchart Gardens are only 19 kilometres (12 miles) north of the city and offer stunningly massive floral displays at any time of the year.
  • Beacon Hill Park is one of more than 60 parks in the city.
